What are the FHSS and DECT on digital baby monitors?

HelloBaby FHSS Wireless baby monitor

Any internet-connected device is at risk of being hacked, so WiFi baby monitors have a greater chance of being hacked than digital baby monitors. Product security experts often advise parents to opt for digital baby monitors, which mainly use Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum (FHSS) technology or Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications (DECT) technology to avoid eavesdropping and interference. So, do you know about Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum (FHSS) technology and Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications (DECT) technology? Any idea how these two technologies work on baby monitors? This article introduces FHSS technology and DECT technology and will list some 2.4 GHz FHSS baby monitors and DECT baby monitors that are safe and nearly impossible to hack.

What is FHSS technology?

Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum (FHSS) is a technique for transmitting radio signals by rapidly changing the carrier frequency between many different frequencies occupying a large spectrum band. The available frequency band is divided into smaller sub-bands. Signals rapidly change ("hop") their carrier frequencies among the center frequencies of these sub-bands in a predetermined order. Interference at a specific frequency only affects the signal for a short time. FHSS avoids interference, prevents eavesdropping, and enables Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) communications. FHSS can also transmit data over distances of up to 60 miles.

FHSS technology was patented by actress Hedy Lamarr and composer George Antheil in 1942. In the early days, FHSS technology could only switch between 88 sub-frequency to transmit audio signals, Which was applied in a remote communication system during World War II. In FHSS technology, the FHSS transmitter and FHSS receiver must be synchronized, with the FHSS transmitter hopping between available narrowband frequencies within a designated wide channel in a pseudo-random sequence known to both the sender and receiver.

Because the frequency band can be divided into sub-bands, user devices can quickly change their carrier frequency or frequency hop with minimal interference.

FHSS has four main advantages over fixed-frequency transmission:

(1) FHSS signals are highly resistant to narrowband interference because the signals hop to different frequency bands.

(2) Signals are difficult to intercept if the frequency-hopping pattern is unknown.

(3) The jamming is also tricky if the frequency channel or hopping algorithm is unknown.

(4) FHSS transmissions can share frequency bands with conventional transmissions with minimal mutual interference. FHSS signals minimally interfere with narrowband communications and vice versa.

What are FHSS baby monitors?

FHSS baby monitors are part of wireless baby monitors without WiFi or that do not rely on WiFi to transmit signals. The 2.4GHz FHSS baby monitor subdivides the 2.4GHz frequency band into sub-frequencies from which a signal can hop to or away as it is transmitted from the baby monitor unit to the receiver/parent unit. FHSS monitors work by quickly changing the channel your baby camera and receiver are using to communicate. Doing so randomly makes it difficult for anyone to casually encounter your baby monitor's signal and listen in/watch.

What is DECT technology?

Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications (Digital European Cordless Telecommunications), commonly known by the acronym DECT, is a standard primarily used to create cordless telephone systems. It originated in Europe, where it is a common standard that replaced earlier cordless telephony standards such as 900 MHz CT1 and CT2. DECT operates in the 1880–1900 MHz band and defines ten frequency channels from 1881.792 MHz to 1897.344 MHz with a band gap of 1728 kHz. DECT allows interference-free wireless operation up to approximately 100 meters (110 yards) outdoors. Indoor performance decreases when walls limit indoor space. DECT performs with fidelity in common congested domestic radio traffic situations. It is generally immune to interference from other DECT systems, WiFi networks, video transmitters, Bluetooth technology, baby monitors, and other wireless devices. In addition, The standard also provides encryption services with the DECT Standard Cipher (DSC).

North American adoption was delayed by United States radio-frequency regulations. This forced the development of a variant of DECT called DECT 6.0, using a slightly different frequency range, which made these units incompatible with systems intended for use in other fields, even from the same manufacturer. DECT 6.0 is a North American marketing term for DECT devices manufactured in the United States and Canada, operating at 1.9 GHz with low electromagnetic emissions.

What are DECT baby monitors?

DECT baby monitors are very similar to DECT phones (cordless phones) in the audio transmission. The DECT baby monitor has excellent sound quality without interference from other wireless networks. Unlike FHSS baby monitors, which use the 2.4 GHz frequency, DECT baby monitors use an uncommon frequency; they rely on the 1.9 GHz frequency and use digitally enhanced cordless telecommunications (DECT) technology.

The DECT baby monitor can switch channels on its own and select from over 50 channels to provide more secure transmission of valuable data. This can keep sound from the monitor very clear with few extra messages and little static to get in the way of hearing a baby.

HelloBaby Monitor: Best FHSS Monitor & DECT Monitor

HelloBaby monitor adopts 2.4GHz frequency hopping spread spectrum technology and digital encryption technology, guaranteeing 100% secure connection and delay-free data transmission. FHSS stands for frequency hopping spread spectrum, and this technology helps ensure that HelloBaby 2.4Ghz signal isn't interfered with. The sequence of these switches of frequency is random; however, your specific devices know what this random sequence is. Your HelloBaby baby monitor will never stay on one frequency channel for any time at all.HelloBaby baby monitors feature data encryption, which, coupled with FHSS, makes the HelloBaby baby monitor a highly sophisticated device in terms of security.

– https://metallolom52.ru
